Vassiliki Danelli Mylona has been the President of BoD of the Hellenic Road Safety Institute (RSI) “Panos Mylonas”, since its establishment in 2005, for the prevention of road traffic incidents. The Institute was created after the tragic unfair loss of her 22-year-old son Panos and since then she has committed herself to work for safer roads in Greece and the world, utilizing her skills and experience from her career in the telecom industry.

As a President, she dedicated her efforts to the strengthening of Road Safety Culture and Education, a field widely overlooked in Greece. In just a few years, she managed to develop a powerful Road Safety Organization with International presence and achievements, being now in UN Consultative Status (ECOSOC). She has also coordinated numerous highly acclaimed European Road Safety projects in Greece and Europe, e.g. the Project AVENUE (Referral Centers for Road Safety) now considered to be a best practice across Europe. She has also introduced the initiative “Scouting for Global Road Safety”, embraced and put under the auspices of UNECE.

Mrs. Mylona has been honored with the “European Citizen’s Award” from the European Parliament in 2011 and has also received honorary prizes from several Road Safety related Organizations, Academic Institutions and Public Authorities. She was honored by the Swedish Government for her contribution and commitment to act for road safety. RSI is a member of numerous Associations regarding road safety both in Greece and abroad, as well as the national Contact Point of the European Road Safety Charter.
